About Me

My name is Kirk Bowman, I am a music teacher based in beautiful Cornwall. I have been extremely passionate about music from a young age. My studies in Cornwall led to me obtaining a National Diploma in Music at triple distinction. After college I started teaching piano and worked as a session musician.

Since that time I have been performing professionally for over ten years abroad and within the UK. My work includes playing banjo in a premier European bluegrass band, touring the world and becoming a signed artist with rankings in the folk charts. I was nominated for the Americana Music Association UK Instrumentalist of the year award 2017.
I have toured as a session musician for well renowned folk, jazz and blues artists within the UK and Europe. My work led me to the USA, where I lived teaching as well as performing for four years before moving back home (you can take the boy out of Cornwall..)

Over the years I developed a very keen set of skills. I have a great ear within improvisation and am well versed in the intricacies of the music business both as a scholar and performer. I'm very passionate about teaching these traits which is more about enabling a student to follow their own path, with my job being to guide, assist and help develop these skill sets.
I am fully DBS certified and because I lived in USA, FBI checked too.
